And there’s a story behind this cream and the name Malta. Malta belonged to the four-legged group of earth beings, more specifically of the bovine group. She was a well-loved school cow. Malta lived permanently on a school farm in Santa Rosa California where a multitude of children, a dedicated farmer and an entire community of people cared for her. One day she got caught on a barbed wire fence and tore her flesh. The wound wouldn’t heal. The worried farmer called the vet who cleaned the wound and administered ointments but it just did not get better.

As members of the community and dedicated fans of Malta, we volunteered to create an ointment in the hopes of speeding her recovery and relieving her suffering. We created a cream made from clay to draw out the problem; aloe to sooth the area and herbal oils to stimulate tissue improvement. The wound got better and the area was left as good as new. Malta has since made the journey to the greenest pasture in the sky after a long life with exceptionally good skin but her legacy remains in this cream named after her.

Since its creation and success, many people, and animals, have enjoyed Malta’s cream and its soothing effects. Sambucus, Elder is high in flavonoids and anthocyanins, natural compounds to help support the body through the winter months. Our own Elderberry extract is the perfect support for the body against the health challenges that predominate this time of year.

Elderberries contain abundant vitamins, anti-oxidants and flavonoids. Packed with Vitamin C and a rich source of vitamin A and B, Elderberries support the body for better resistance. This year our elderberry bushes produced an abundant crop of glossy black berries. As berries go, elderberries are not very sweet and could be considered medicinal tasting. To make our cordial we combined our elderberries with our own rose glycerin extract and some grain alcohol to make a slightly sweet-tasting cordial packed with all the beneficial properties of elderberries. You can add a dropper to a small glass of water to impart a sweet taste to your daily hydration. Or add Elderberry Cordial to holiday drinks to infuse a classic cocktail with elderberry tanginess.
